Death away from home? Call first: 1-888-889-8508

For members and families

How Travel Plan by Inman works

If a member dies 75 miles or more from home, one phone call starts everything needed to bring them home. Here is what happens, what is included, and what to expect.

The 75-mile rule

The plan applies when a member dies 75 miles or more from their legal residence, anywhere in the world, including in another country. Your legal residence is your fixed, full-time home.

If you have lived at another address for 180 days or more in the 12 months before death, that address counts as home instead. A nursing home counts as home after a stay of 180 days or more.

Call us first

The most important thing a family can do is call 1-888-889-8508 before making any other arrangements. That call makes sure the complete and legal process for transporting human remains is followed.

The plan is not a reimbursement plan. It cannot pay for arrangements someone else has already made, so keep the number with you when you travel, and make sure your family knows it.

Travel Plan by Inman - Introduction. A one-minute introduction to what the plan does and how one call brings a member home.

What happens when you call

  1. Call first

If a member dies 75 miles or more from home, the family calls 1-888-889-8508, day or night, before making any other arrangements.
